Fluoride Treatment
What Is Fluoride Treatment?
What To Expect
Getting a fluoride treatment is a quick, simple, and painless process. When you come in for your treatment, your dentist will start by cleaning your teeth thoroughly. This ensures the fluoride can be applied directly to your tooth enamel for maximum effectiveness. The fluoride itself comes in several forms, such as a gel, foam, or varnish. Your dentist will apply it using a swab, brush, tray, or mouthwash. The whole process usually takes just a few minutes.
After Fluoride Treatment
After your fluoride treatment, you can resume your normal activities immediately. However, we recommend that you avoid eating or drinking for at least 30 minutes after your treatment to help the fluoride fully absorb into your tooth enamel, maximizing the treatment's effectiveness. You might notice a slight change in the color of your teeth or a different taste in your mouth, but these effects are harmless and will disappear quickly.
Is Fluoride Treatment Right For Me?
Fluoride treatment can benefit almost everyone, especially children, as their teeth are still developing. If you (or your child) experience any of the following, you may be an excellent candidate for fluoride treatment:
- High risk of cavities
- Sensitive teeth
- Dry mouth conditions
- Presence of crowns or bridges
- Undergoing orthodontic treatment
- History of gum disease
