These are trying times for many people around the world. Now more than ever it is important to focus on the health and wellness of you and your family. Here are some easy ways to prioritize your health this spring.
1)Get Regular Exercise
You don’t have to run marathons to improve your overall health. Research has demonstrated that we can lower our risk of stroke, heart disease and other deadly medical problems by incorporating some movement into your day. 2) Try to Meditate
Countless studies have shown that regular meditation can help ease stress and promote mental well-being. According to a study appearing in Springer’s Journal of Cognitive Enhancement, mindful meditation may also reduce cognitive decline. Keep your brain young by practicing ten minutes of quiet daily meditation this spring. If you’re an inexperienced meditator, start by clearing your mind and concentrate on your breathing. Don’t get discouraged if your mind starts to wonder; just gently return your focus to your breathing and things will get easier over time.
3) Prioritize Sleep
Countless studies have linked inadequate sleep to serious health issues, including obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and even early death. Other studies have shown that insufficient sleep can worsen anxiety, depression and mental health problems. This spring, focus on getting the recommended seven to nine hours of sleep each night.
4) Drink Less Alcohol
Alcohol has been linked to countless health problems, including heart issues and liver failure. It’s also been shown to raise the risk of oral cancer. If you choose to drink, do so in moderation according to the recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
5) Ditch the Soda
Packed with sugar and acids that corrode tooth enamel, sodas can drastically increase your risk of tooth decay. It can also increase your risk of serious health problems, including diabetes. Even diet soda has also been associated with an increased risk of stroke and dementia. This spring, try to limit your soda intake and drink more water.
6) Embrace Mindfulness
There is strong evidence that people experience reduced stress and anxiety when they stay focused on the moment. Research also indicates that mindfulness actually has the ability to make positive physical changes to gray matter in the brain. If you aren’t sure how to be mindful, just try to focus on your senses. Think about the taste and texture of your food while you eat. Focus on the way your feet feel on the ground. The more you stay present in the moment, the less you will find yourself caught up in unhealthy negative thinking and stressful ruminations.
